High-Risk Groups for Flu

Most people who get the flu will have mild illness and will recover in less than two weeks. Some people with certain medical conditions (like heart or lung disease) or certain age groups (including children younger than 5 years and adults 65 years and older) are at high risk for developing flu-related complications (like pneumonia). Flu-related complications can be serious and lead to hospital stays or even death.

Flu Vaccine Safety

Getting vaccinated is your best protection the flu. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that almost everyone 6 months of age and older get vaccinated against the flu every year. If you have high-risk conditions, including asthma and heart disease, you should get vaccinated as early as possible each flu season.

Make a Plan to Stay Healthy, Safe

Good health doesn't happen by accident. As a teen, you're surrounded by all sorts of influences that can potentially harm your health or place you in danger. To overcome these influences, you need to make a plan to get and stay healthy and keep yourself as safe as possible.

Write down the steps you are willing to take over the next year to improve or maintain your health and protect yourself. Writing down your goals will actually help you keep them.

Dating violence can have lasting effects on the lives of everyone it touches. It is imperative for South Carolina to put an end to dating violence. We need to stop the silence and break the vicious cycle of violence.

Sexual Risk Avoidance Education

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

The Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program will be transitioning to the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE).

The state funded SRAE program will transition to the SCDE by June 30, 2024 and the federally funded program on October 1, 2024.  Any future Requests For Grant Applications (RFGA) or Request for Proposals (RFPs) will be issued by the SCDE.
