- Birth control/contraception services
- Abstinence education
- Pregnancy testing and counseling
- Prenatal vitamins and preconception referrals
Immunizations/Vaccinations
Wondering which shots your child will need to attend day care or school? We’ll tell you which ones are needed and make sure your child gets the required shots. We also provide immunizations for adults; call a local health department for more information.
OD Safety Kits
OD Safety Kits containing naloxone, the opioid overdose antidote, as well as fentanyl and xylazine testing strips are available at all DPH clinic sites.
Pregnancy Testing
Think you might be pregnant? We can do a pregnancy test. If it turns out that you are pregnant, we will help you find out if you face any special pregnancy health risks. We will refer you to a prenatal doctor and other medical services.
Postpartum/Newborn Home Visits
The Postpartum Newborn Home Visit (PPNBHV) is a service for new moms and their babies. Health Department nurses provide visits to eligible families. Ask your doctor or nurse to make a referral or write an order for a visit. A nurse will review the referral and have a member of staff contact you to schedule an in-home or virtual visit. Visits are prioritized for moms/babies with high risk factors (teen moms, low birth weight, prematurity). The nurse will usually spend 1-2 hours with you and your baby to assure you both are doing well.
Services for Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs
Does your child have a chronic illness, disabling condition or developmental delay? If so, we can see if you qualify for your child to get the special health care services he or she needs. We may be able to help you pay for certain services. Your child must be under 18 years of age to apply.
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)
- Testing and screening
- Hepatitis C testing
- Treatment
- Counseling and risk assessment
- Free condoms
- Abstinence education
- Information on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV infection prevention as well as referrals
Fast Track STI Test
If you meet certain qualifications, you can get a shorter and more stream-lined appointment to get an HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea and/or chlamydia test. You’ll just need to provide blood/urine samples during your appointment. You must be symptom-free, not an IV drug user, not have had an STI in the past 6 months, and not have a partner who has STI symptoms or who told you to get tested.
Tuberculosis (TB) Treatment
If you have been diagnosed with TB disease, our team will provide medications at no cost. You will be assigned a Nurse Case Manager who will oversee your medical care during treatment, which can last six to nine months, sometimes longer. If the TB disease is in your lungs, our team will need to TB test those who have spent time with you. These people, called “close contacts,” are tested to see if they breathed in the TB germ. If their TB test is positive, our team will complete the evaluation to determine if treatment is indicated.
WIC (Women, Infants and Children)
WIC is an eligibility-based program that provides the following services for women, infants, and children under 5 years old:
- Monthly benefits to buy healthy food
- Personalized nutrition information and support
- Breastfeeding support, including one-on-one counseling with a mother who has breastfed
- Referrals for services that can benefit the whole family.
Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF recipients financially qualify for WIC. WIC helps supplement nutrition and creates healthy families.
Other Services Offered at Public Health Clinics
Community Engagement
We work with local communities to help them take charge of their own health. This includes informing public health policy, systems, and environmental changes, facilitating community needs assessments, providing local public health data, providing technical assistance to communities to develop community health improvement plans, and providing outreach and education on a variety of health-related topics and disease risk factors.
If you have requests for educational materials, community projects, partnerships, and/or events, please contact your local health department and ask for a community engagement team specialist.
