Do

  • Use the SCRIPTS report as a tool only. Remember that it is unconfirmed, raw data.
  • Discuss the reports with your patients.
  • Have delegates register and use their own account. Accounts cannot be shared.
  • Refer a patient to PMP administration (scripts@dph.sc.gov) to request a copy of their own PMP report.
  • Contact the dispenser (pharmacy or dispensing practitioner) to verify information on the SCRIPTS report.

Don't

  • Use Narx scores as the sole determining factor of whether to prescribe or dispense to a patient or not. Narx scores should be used as an indicator to investigate a patient’s history further. It is a clinical decision support making tool to mitigate risk factors.
  • Query anyone except your own patients. Patients must be established patients with your practice or pharmacy. SCRIPTS reports should not be used as screening tools for new patients.
  • Query friends, family members or yourself.
  • Query old patients who are not current patients in your practice or pharmacy.
  • Share your account information or password. Usernames and passwords should only be known by the account holder.
  • Print and share reports with other prescribers or pharmacists; instead, discuss the report with them if they are involved in the patient's care.
  • Print the reports and give to other health care providers or patients. Instead, refer patients to the PMP for a copy of their own PMP report.

We recommend not saving SCRIPTS reports into a patient’s electronic medical record. Instead, we recommend annotating what is seen in the report. Your records are subject to a subpoena. Our records can only be obtained through a grand jury subpoena. A history of reports is saved within the database for you to historically review.
