General Infection Prevention Resources by Organization

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Infection Control:

  • The CDC’s tools and resources are designed to help health care providers implement infection control measures and prevent healthcare-associated infections. These include general resources, tools by health care setting type, tools by infection or pathogen, as well as quick observation tools. 

The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA):

  • IDSA is a global community of clinicians, scientists, and public health experts working together to solve humanity’s smallest and greatest challenges, from tiny microbes to global outbreaks, by advancing the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. 

Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (APIC):

  • APIC is the leading professional association for Infection Preventionists that focuses on advancing the science and practice of infection prevention and control. APIC provides evidence-based, scientific, and proven resources to infection preventionists, health care professionals, and patients. 

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA):

  • SHEA is a professional society that improves public health by establishing infection-prevention measures and supporting antibiotic stewardship among health care providers. SHEA's mission is ‘Safe Healthcare for All’. 

DPH Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Unit:

  • The HAI Unit within the Communicable Disease Epidemiology Section at the South Carolina Department of Public Health is dedicated to continually improving IPC practices in health care settings in South Carolina. The HAI Unit is responsible for surveillance and data analysis of healthcare-associated infections. The unit provides IPC assistance during facility-associated outbreaks or as requested and can provide limited National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) technical assistance.
