Hurricane Helene: Public Health Department Closures

Latest updates: Hurricane Helene

Our public health departments' hours of operation may be affected by power and staffing outages. This means that some closures may not appear on the state government office delays and closings map. The health and safety of our employees and our clients remains our highest priority. We are working to get services restored as safely and quickly as possible.

What is SNAC?

South Carolina’s State Nutrition Action Coalition (SNAC) is a state-level collaboration with representation from state agencies and nonprofits that implement the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrition  programs.  Together, the SNAC partnering organizations reach underserved people throughout the life span, providing food benefits, nutrition education and obesity prevention services.

History

About 10 years ago, State Nutrition Action Councils (SNAC) were established in  (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) regions to maximize nutrition education efforts and improve coordination and cooperation among the state agencies, FNS nutrition assistance programs, public health agencies, and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP).

SNAC collaborations will expand the stakeholders in the future to include not only FNS programs, but interested public, private, non-profit groups, and other programs to develop a State Nutrition and Food System Plan for South Carolina.

Purpose

SNACs were established to maximize nutrition education efforts and improve coordination and cooperation among the state agencies, by focusing on one or more common goals to connect efforts and resources. SNACs use the SNAP-Education Evaluation Framework as a tool to help plan and evaluate SNAC and state-level partnerships.

Overarching SNAC Goal

To implement approaches that positively impact our audience based on pooled resources, knowledge and activities.
