Hurricane Helene: Public Health Department Closures

Latest updates: Hurricane Helene

Our public health departments' hours of operation may be affected by power and staffing outages. This means that some closures may not appear on the state government office delays and closings map. The health and safety of our employees and our clients remains our highest priority. We are working to get services restored as safely and quickly as possible.

DHEC established the Hospital Infections Disclosure Act (HIDA) Advisory Committee as required by the HIDA legislation. The Committee is a multi-disciplinary group with set voting member organizations, and representatives of consumers and the general public are also key participants. The member organizations nominate a representative and set their own guidelines for representative rotation schedules. After nomination from their organization, these voting representatives are approved by the DHEC board. Committee participants advise DHEC on reportable healthcare conditions in the state and public reports that provide healthcare-associated infection information to the public. They establish HAI-related reporting requirements and help determine the focus of analysis for the information reported and for the future.

The HIDA Advisory Committee includes representatives from the following organizations and groups:

  • Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Palmetto Chapter
  • The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence
  • Consumers and General Public
  • South Carolina Hospital Association
  • South Carolina Infectious Diseases Society
  • South Carolina Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office
  • South Carolina Society for Respiratory Care

HIDA Advisory Committee meetings are normally held the second Thursday of the following months: March, June, September, and December.
