"The internship allowed me to serve the public through meaningful professional work while building relationships with community members and public health professionals." —Seth Hughes
What skills or knowledge did you gain during your internship? One of the biggest skills I gained was the confidence to speak up when I have an idea or want to know more about something. I learned that asking questions is one of the most valuable skills a person can have, because it leads to more knowledge and stronger relationships. This internship has taught me not to be afraid to seek clarification or pursue opportunities to learn.
What aspects of the internship did you find most valuable? The most valuable aspect of the internship to me was the opportunity to connect with the community and better understand those around me. Hearing their stories and learning about their perspectives motivated me to do my best to connect them with resources and encourage them to lead healthier lives.
How did interning with DPH impact your career and professional development? The internship allowed me to serve the public through meaningful professional work while building relationships with community members and public health professionals. It confirmed that I want to pursue a career in public health because I enjoy helping improve the lives of others. I also had the opportunity to meet many people whom I hope to stay connected with throughout my career.
