Sept. 9, 2025COLUMBIA, S.C. — Every year, about 1 in 33 babies born in the United States has a birth defect, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, many serious birth defects can be prevented, which is why the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH), along with the National Birth Defects Prevention Network (NBDPN), is taking part in Folic Acid Awareness Week 2025.

Sept. 8, 2025COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) confirmed that a bat found near Locust Hill and S. Bates roads in Taylors, S.C., has tested positive for rabies. No people are known to have been exposed at this time. Three dogs were exposed and will be quarantined as required in the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.
