During South Carolina's flu season, we ask that you make a special effort to do all you can to slow the spread of flu and protect your residents and staff.
Each year, flu is a serious threat for people living in residential facilities. Seasonal flu typically kills about 36,000 Americans and hospitalizes 200,000 each year. Flu can cause mild to severe respiratory illness and other symptoms.
South Carolina State Law, Section 44-37-50 requires the South Carolina Department of Public Health or DPH (formerly DHEC) to approve the video to be utilized by a hospital for providing education on Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) to parents of newborns. If a hospital requests that DPH reviews a video, the steps below will be taken.
South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 44-37-50 requires hospitals and Department of Social Services (DSS) adoption services to provide education to parents and caregivers of newborns about the dangers of shaking a baby and the importance of parents and caregivers learning infant CPR. The statute requires the Department of Public Health (DPH) to approve all videos to be used and to establish an educational protocol.
Electronic case reporting (eCR) is the automated generation and secure transmission of case reports from health care organizations’ electronic health records (EHR) systems to public health agencies. eCR captures and reports required information digitally and will greatly reduce the burden of manual reporting.
