HIV/HCV Testing Requirements

Non-Clinical Settings

To be authorized to perform HIV/HCV testing in non-clinical settings, individuals must complete the following training courses in the specified order:

  1. HIV 101
  2. STD 101
  3. Understanding Viral Hepatitis
  4. SC STD/HIV Laws
  5. HIV Testing in Nonclinical Settings (Note: This course is offered by a third-party provider, not DPH)
  6. Rapid HIV/HCV Testing (Hands-On) (Note: Registration for this course is only permitted after all required courses are completed)

Clinical Settings

For authorization to perform HIV/HCV testing in clinical settings, individuals must complete the following training requirements:

  1. HIV 101
  2. STD 101
  3. Understanding Viral Hepatitis
  4. SC STD/HIV Laws
  5. Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling
  6. Motivational Interviewing (Note: These courses are provided by a third-party provider, not DPH)
  7. Rapid HIV/HCV Testing (Hands-On) (Note: Registration for this course is only permitted after all required courses are completed)

Online Modules

Online Kahoot! modules are offered for HIV 101, STI 101, Understanding Viral Hepatitis, and SC HIV STD Laws. Individuals are allowed to register for online modules once. Registrants must complete all sections, quizzes, and activities of the modules and pass with a score of 80% or higher. If the minimum passing score is not met, then registrants will need to take the course with an instructor. To register for online Kahoot! modules, please email PreventionTraining@dph.sc.gov.
