Training and Training Order

Agency staff should not perform HIV or HCV rapid testing independently until they have completed the course requirements and the initial assessment.

Becoming an HIV Tester

To be considered “ready to test” for HIV testing, individuals should complete the following training courses in this order:

  1. HIV 101
  2. STD 101
  3. SC STD/HIV Laws
  4. HIV Testing in Nonclinical Settings (Note: This is NOT a DPH course. It is offered by a 3rd party)
  5. Rapid HIV Testing (Hands On) (Note: You will not be allowed to register for this course without completing ALL the required courses)

Becoming an HCV Tester

To be considered “ready to test” for HCV testing, individuals should complete the following courses in this order:

  1. HIV 101
  2. STI 101
  3. Understanding Viral Hepatitis
  4. SC STD/HIV Laws
  5. Rapid HCV Training (Hands On) (Note: You will not be allowed to register for this course without completing ALL the required courses)

We require our sub-recipients to complete refresher training every three years. In addition, when participants complete the course HIV and HCV testing courses, they must complete an initial, 6-month, and 12-month assessment.

Online Modules

Online Kahoot! modules are offered for HIV 101, STI 101, Understanding Viral Hepatitis, and SC HIV STD Laws. Individuals are allowed to register for online modules once. Registrants must complete all sections, quizzes, and activities of the modules and pass with a score of 80% or higher. If the minimum passing score is not met, then registrants will need to take the course with an instructor. To register for online Kahoot! modules, please email PreventionTraining@dph.sc.gov.

2025 Training Calendar

There are no instructor-led trainings in December 2024. Please email PreventionTraining@dph.sc.gov to be enrolled in self-paced modules of if you have any questions.
