Dear Colleague - September 1, 2025

September 1, 2025

Dear Colleague:

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) is pleased to announce our sixth annual PrEP Awareness Week. This annual statewide initiative aims to increase awareness among providers and the community regarding pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a pill or injectable that can help significantly decrease HIV transmission if someone is exposed to the virus. PrEP Awareness Week will be observed the entire month of September by offering FREE HIV testing and PrEP education material to South Carolina college students.

We invite medical providers, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, health educators, and college students to join daily webinars hosted by the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Clinical Training Center, a partner of the Southeast AIDS Training and Education Center (SE AETC), to learn more about PrEP. Participants can earn up to seven FREE continuing medical, nursing, social work or pharmacy education credits. Webinars will take place at noon daily from Monday, Sept. 22 through Thursday, Sept. 25. We will also be hosting a virtual Primary Care PrEP Summit on Friday, Sept, 26 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Please visit the following webpages for more information about PrEP Week, PrEP resources, and how you can get involved:

Please share this information widely. If you have any question or concerns, please email us at PrEPMeSC@dph.sc.gov

Sincerely,
Linda J. Bell, M.D.
