The SC Department of Public Health’s Prescription Monitoring Program has created new, public-facing data visualizations that provide insight on controlled substance prescriptions dispensed in the state of South Carolina.
The South Carolina Controlled Substances Act eliminates the registration grace period. Changes to the South Carolina Code of Laws Section 44-53-280 (C & D) were effective May 18, 2018.
The registrant shall notify the Bureau of Drug Control, DPH, of the loss or theft of any controlled substances upon discovery of such loss or theft.
The registrant shall also complete DEA Form 106 regarding such loss or theft. The completed DEA Form 106 should be sent to the Bureau of Drug Control at the following address:

The registration of a registrant who fails to renew by April 1 or October 1, whichever is applicable, is canceled.
The list of controlled substances posted on the DPH website is for informational purposes only. The posted list includes all substances scheduled in accordance with the provisions of SC Code Section 44-53-160, designated by DPH and transmitted to the General Assembly since the last SC Code update in 2012, as well as the list of scheduled substances currently in the SC Code for Schedules I-V. Please review the Board Orders posted on this page, as well as the Federal Register, for detailed information on the scheduling actions of controlled substances.
To make changes to your practice location address, registrant name, or drug schedules on your current South Carolina (DPH) controlled substances registration, follow the applicable instructions below. To make corresponding changes to your current DEA registration, follow the applicable instructions on the DEA’s website.
To cancel a registration, a letter can be emailed to bdc@dph.sc.gov or faxed to 1-803-896-0627, Attention: Renewal Clerk, referencing your South Carolina Controlled Substance Registration number and Federal DEA number, stating that you are requesting to cancel your registration due to whatever the reason may be, e.g., moving out-of-state, retired, no longer practicing your profession, or you no longer possess a valid South Carolina practitioner license.
