Hurricane Helene: Public Health Department Closures

Latest updates: Hurricane Helene

Our public health departments' hours of operation may be affected by power and staffing outages. This means that some closures may not appear on the state government office delays and closings map. The health and safety of our employees and our clients remains our highest priority. We are working to get services restored as safely and quickly as possible.

  • NEW - On December 7, 2021, the State Commission for Hearing Aid Specialists met to discuss approved training activities. The Commission determined that for the licensing periods of 2021 and 2022, licensees may obtain educational units through live in-person or live online/virtual training activities. However, licensees can only obtain up to three (3) educational units for the licensing period through non-live/pre-recorded training activities (e.g., AudiologyOnline).

Hearing aid specialist means an individual licensed under state law to engage in the practice of measuring human hearing by an audiometer and by other established means for fitting, making selections, adaptations, or sale of hearing aids. It also includes the making of impressions for earmolds.

Temporary permits can be issued to applicants in training to become a licensed hearing aid specialist.

Information

  • An applicant for license, or holder of a temporary permit who meets all the requirements of the Act, shall appear at a time, place, and before such persons as prescribed by the Department to be examined by written and practical testing.
