It’s critical that frontline health care workers understand infection control principles and protocols in order to protect themselves, their facility, their family, and their community. CDC’s new infection control training collaborative, Project Firstline, is designed for just that purpose.

The Goal
Project Firstline’s goal is to strengthen the safety of patients and health care workers at health care settings to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases. The comprehensive infection control program features new training for staff across all health care facilities (hospitals, outpatient clinics, dialysis centers, nursing homes, etc.).
Increasing Capacity
Project Firstline will allow DPH to get additional infection control capacity across the state’s health care facilities. While the existing infection preventionists at DPH and at our health care facilities are dedicated and highly skilled, there is a need for more capacity and expanded training.
Project Firstline’s infection control training is for all frontline staff in South Carolina across all disciplines (nurses, housekeepers, doctors, physical therapists, etc.) and all types of health care facilities.

Project First Microlearns
The Project Firstline Micro-Learns are a series of guided discussions that connect infection control concepts to immediate, practical value, so health care workers can recognize infection risks and take action to stop the spread of germs. These micro-learns are brief and adaptable in-person trainings that are designed to be incorporated into team meetings or huddles. Each session should be led or facilitated by an experienced team member with infection control expertise.
