Our public health departments' hours of operation may be affected by power and staffing outages. This means that some closures may not appear on the state government office delays and closings map. The health and safety of our employees and our clients remains our highest priority. Cancellations

To cancel a registration, a letter can be emailed to bdc@dph.sc.gov or faxed to 1-803-896-0627, Attention: Renewal Clerk, referencing your South Carolina Controlled Substance Registration number and Federal DEA number, stating that you are requesting to cancel your registration due to whatever the reason may be, e.g., moving out-of-state, retired, no longer practicing your profession, or you no longer possess a valid South Carolina practitioner license.

Annual Inventory

The annual controlled substance inventory is due on May 1 of each year , unless another date is approved in writing by this office.

Registrants must be certain to record the date of the inventory and whether the inventory was taken at the opening or the close of the business day, and the time the inventory is taken. Such inventory shall be signed by a responsible individual, who attests to the completeness and accuracy of the inventory. Inventory records must be maintained for two years in a readily retrievable manner.

Certificate of Need (CON)

The Certificate of Need Program administers a regulatory regime known as the State Certification of Need and Health Facility Licensure Act (hereinafter referred to as the "Act") that is set forth in S.C. Code Sections 44-7-110 to 44-7-230. 

The purpose of the Act is to promote cost containment, prevent unnecessary duplication of health care facilities and services, guide the establishment of health facilities and services which will best serve public need and ensure high quality services are provided in health facilities in this State.

EMT Skills

EMT-Basic candidates who successfully complete a South Carolina-approved EMT-Basic course that uses the 1994 DOT EMT-Basic curriculum; successfully pass the National Registry EMT-Basic (i.e. the State of S.C. basic written and practical examinations); and receive subsequent South Carolina certification as an EMT-Basic, are authorized to perform the following skilled activities (all skills can be used on adult, child and infant patients unless otherwise stated):
